Jackson's Newest Adventures

As I mentioned before, my parents visited over the Easter weekend. While they were here we got a rare shot of Jonathan and me together. We're going to have to approach strangers to take our picture when we're out, because I love having pictures of us. I just wish I would have thought to move the bottle away from Jack's face :).

I haven't gotten any pictures of my dad with Jack yet from the weekend, but here's my mom feeding Jack.

Jonathan and I are having a great time exposing Jack to some new things lately since he is getting increasingly interactive. He's much more involved in what we are doing and super curious. Jack is a water enthusiast, and he LOVES bath time. We tried to dip him into the pool by our condo a week or so ago, but the water was still too cold, and he cried the second his feet hit the water. He was initially excited to see what looked like a huge bath tub, but the temperature was a turn off. Next to the pool is a hot tub, and though he can't go all the way in, we dipped his feet in to let him splash around. We sat at the edge of the hot tub for a good 15 minutes while he kicked the water.

Jack likes to be involved in pretty much everything we do, and he does not want to be put down. He demands that he be held about 99% of the time. He really likes to get the grown-up, tall person perspective on things.

We have been trying to find new things to do here in Irvine other than going to the beach all the time. I know going to the beach sounds magical, but there's only so much you can do there day in and day out. Luckily, our friends Steve and Laurie Kerman from Colorado are originally from Irvine. Laurie told us about Irvine Regional Park, and we loved it! They have a mini train ride, pony rides, horses for the older folks, a petting zoo, bikes and mini boat rentals, and a ton of open space to enjoy. We took Jack to the petting zoo to see some goats. We didn't let him touch them (kind of gross), but he loved watching them and watching the older kids pet them.

We also introduced Jack to solid food for the first time yesterday. We were going to wait for the 6 month mark, but it's only two weeks away and Jonathan will be back at work again. We didn't want him to miss out on potential funny faces and messiness. We started Jack off with brown rice cereal, and he actually did really well. He made a little bit of a face, but he swallowed it and kept eating it. He only ate about 1/2 a tsp of food, but it was a good start. He had a little more rice cereal today, and we'll probably introduce a few veggies tomorrow. We took a video of the whole thing, but here's some pictures that we took.

And finally, I'm always trying to find new things to keep Jack interested and happy. He truly likes to be entertained and can't sit by himself. I laid him on his play mat and made him a little tent by putting a receiving blanket over the top. He thought it was hilarious and had fun pulling in down on top of him.

Developmentally, Jack pulls himself around with his hands while on his belly to get to things. He'll go around in a circle to watch something or grab a toy. He's been pushing his butt up in the air trying to get on his knees, and today he was on his stomach pushing himself forward with his feet. He stuck his butt up in the air balanced on his feet and pushed off the floor to propel forward a little. He also likes to grab things off the table and push them onto the ground. He's becoming way more mobile and quite the hand full. I think we're in for some long days of chasing Jack around pretty soon.
